Bachelor
Controls has a strong track record in MES integration. We began doing
this type of work years ago at the request of customers seeking the
benefits of information flow between their manufacturing control system
and business information systems. BCI is adept at both sides of this
equation. In addition to a seasoned group of process and control engineers,
we also have a full staff of professional programmers
to provide seamless integration of the control system with other
information systems within the enterprise.
What
is MES?
An MES strategy is an implementation between your company's business
system and the real-time operating system of the plant floor. It's
a near-real-time information broker between the transaction-based
business system and the real-time plant floor environment.
What is the Value of MES?
An MES integration connects two previously disparate systems into
a continuous, coordinated system offering seamless information exchange
for critical decision-making and data tracking and analysis. With
an MES system in place, you can:
- Arrange and download your preferred work schedule
to the plant floor
- Get real data history for lot tracking,
yield analysis, vendor evaluation, etc.
- Plant floor can manage downloaded schedule as
situations require throughout the shift
- Tighter quality management and audit trail
- With the plant floor synchronized with the business
system, you can finally start enjoying true manufacturing responsiveness
— the oft mentioned agile manufacturing model
What is the ROI?
Connecting and integrating two systems that likely were not meant
to work together requires experience and a good understanding of both
the plant floor environment and the front office needs. Bachelor Controls
has proven expertise in both settings, making the process of matching
"apples to oranges" a smooth and efficient process that
maximizes efficiency and gives you the most return on your investment.
Some systems can even see payback within weeks.
Case Studies
Bachelor Controls has completed numerous MES integration projects
for multiple customers and industries. Some sample integrations, include
- BCI integrated an MRP system with the automated
control system of a metal door manufacturer, enabling the manufacturing
plant to download production orders directly to the production line.
Not only did this save time, it eliminated the opportunity for operator
error. BCI later took this feature a step further for a metal building
manufacturer by enabling them to download production orders from
their corporate headquarters directly to a production line at a
remote facility. more

- For a customer in the petfood industry, BCI automated
the production process, delivering production data to a database
created in Microsoft Excel format to help plant management analyze
data and identify ways to optimize plant utilization. As a result,
the company was able to “increase productivity by 100 percent
and improve quality immeasurably.” more
-->
- A large agri-business company chose BCI to integrate
a load-out facility. Order data was downloaded from the SAP R/3
system at company headquarters, then used to verify customer/driver
information prior to authorization for loading. When the loading
operation was complete, the actual load information was captured
and used to print a bill of lading for the driver. Within minutes,
this data was also automatically transmitted back to the SAP database
at headquarters where invoices were promptly generated. This same-day
invoice generation significantly shortened the billing cycle. more
